Pay Rate: $16.00/hour DOE
Description The Science Center Retail Associates are part of the public face of the Sitka Sound Science Center. The position involves daily interaction with diverse groups of locals, tourists, and visitors to Sitka. Retail Associates play an integral role in the success of the Science Center’s Gift Shop by greeting customers and guests, fielding questions about Sitka, all while assisting customers find the unique items that are available in the gift shop. Opportunities for workforce skills development.
Tasks Greet and direct customers
Provide accurate information about products, features and pricing
Ensure store is stocked and clean and update Retail Manager if inventory is low
Handling cash, check, credit card and return transactions using POS system, training on the system is provided
Have basic understanding of SSSC
Maintaining exceptional customer service
Qualifications Strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities
Works well within a team
Punctual, showing up on time ready to work
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new tasks
Experience in retail and/or merchandising is a bonus, but not required, training will be provided.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
Background The Sitka Sound Science Center (SSSC) is a growing 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to increase the understanding and awareness of the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems of Alaska. Its core purpose is to use science and education to strengthen and serve Sitka and southeast Alaska. Inclusion and equity are core values of the Sitka Sound Science Center.
