Argo Group US currently has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Director of Reinsurance Accounting in either of our offices located in New York City, San Antonio, TX or Chicago. This position will become a member of the US Segment Accounting team and support the various US business unit leaders in technical accounting for a variety of reinsurance placements.The role will work on-site (or hybrid no less than three days per week on-site) at either our Chicago, New York City, Rockwood, PA, or San Antonio, TX office.

The primary responsibilities are:

Ensure accurate and timely compilation of accounting information, analysis and reporting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Oversee and manage the Reinsurance Accounting financial processing and reporting for all US Operational units.

Prepare and analyze complex standard financial reinsurance and ad hoc reports for management.

Serve as the accounting liaison for all US reinsurance communications with Finance, Actuarial and Reinsurance Operations counterparts in the organization.

Interpret both new and renewal reinsurance agreements for proper recording and reporting within the reinsurance software.

Oversee and manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting close and reporting for US reinsurance accounting. Activities performed include the preparation of journal entries, financial analysis, account reconciliations and reinsurance reporting to both internal clients and external brokers.

Manage and produce reinsurance reporting schedules for the Statutory annual statements.

Assist with internal and external audit requests.

Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.

The job requirements are:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university

Clear knowledge and proven abilities in Reinsurance account processing and a minimum of 10+ years of accounting experience, preferably reinsurance accounting in a property/casualty insurance environment

3-5 years of experience managing a team of accountants/support staff

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and verbal/written communication skills

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage, prioritize and effectively meet deadlines for multiple assignments simultaneously

Strong teamwork skills and display professional leadership demeanor

Remain flexible in a fast paced environment and possess a customer focused attitude

Proficient PC skills, particularly in Excel, Access and Word. Skills in accounting and reinsurance software preferred.
