Spiritual Enrichment Coordinator
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Background: Religious education has been an important part of Italian Home's history since we opened our doors to children in 1919. Every child in the care of Italian Home for Children (IHC) is offered the opportunity to participate in the Spiritual Enrichment Program, with parental or guardian permission. The Italian Home for Children's Jamaica Plain campus provides residential and acute treatment programs for children ages 4-13 who are experiencing severe emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties. We seek to create a positive, caring community in which children have the opportunity to achieve their highest level of success.
Position Overview: The Spiritual Enrichment Coordinator plans and leads the spiritual enrichment programming. They create beneficial, engaging, age-appropriate Bible classes and coordinates Christian-based services at the Home, such as Sunday worship services and holiday celebrations. The Spiritual Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the activities of volunteers from local churches, parishes and schools. They will also be available for spiritual counseling throughout the day.
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of duties and responsibilities that will be required of the Spiritual Enrichment Coordinator, but additional responsibilities may be required. Employees are expected to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Specific Responsibilities:
Programming:
Develop, plan, and oversee all spiritual enrichment programming at IHC and provide weekly Bible study classes
Coordinate Sunday worship services with community volunteers
Create and coordinate meaningful special events, including children's participation in special holiday services
Attend care planning / family meetings, as assigned
Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healthy environment that meets the physical and emotional needs of the children
Cooperate as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of the children
Demonstrate a therapeutic and caring purpose during all interactions with the children
Collaborate with the program staff and the clinical team to identify and maintain spiritual connections in the community, as needed
Administration: Complete reports as required
Actively participate in professional development opportunities offered at Italian Home for Children
Ensure all Spiritual Program volunteers complete IHC required onboarding documents, including all background checks
Provide program staff with a list of children who have permission to participate in the Spiritual Enrichment Program
Complete IHC Orientation and Behavior Management Training
Demonstrate understanding of the Italian Home for Children's model of care, including therapeutic crisis intervention methods and physical restraint
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Graduate or degree candidate of accredited seminary, school of theology, or appropriate certification in pastoral ministry
Experience working with children who exhibit severe emotional, behavioral, and educational issues strongly preferred
Strong commitment to supporting, nurturing, teaching, and empowering children
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to play an instrument and lead choir preferred
Ability to engage volunteers from local churches for Bible study classes and services
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Strong commitment to Italian Home for Children's values, philosophy and mission
Compensation: Commensurate with experience; excellent benefits and engaging work environment. This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week.
