Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer is a dynamic and impactful non-profit dedicated to raising awareness, providing support, and driving advocacy efforts in the fight against breast cancer. We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to serve as our Executive Director and lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact.
Organizational Background
The Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer (Formerly It’s The Journey) is a registered 501c3 non-profit that strives to support Georgia’s breast cancer community by raising funds to support breast health and breast cancer programs throughout Georgia.
The Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer is our premier fundraising event. Since 2002, the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer has raised over $19 million to fund 552 grants that provide breast cancer education, screening, early detection, support services, and continuing care for Georgians.
Our primary focus is connecting communities with our mission to increase access to care and reduce disparities in cancer outcomes.
Position Summary
The Executive Director of Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer is responsible for the organization's overall management, strategic direction, and growth.
The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and staff to advance the mission and vision of the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer.
This role requires a dynamic and visionary leader with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to inspire and mobilize highly diverse remote staff, policymakers, funding partners, and the public about breast cancer awareness and the organization's mission.
Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer continues to grow. Its budget comes primarily from private foundations and individuals.
Responsibilities
Fundraising: Leads fundraising efforts including cultivating new and existing donors, applying for grants, and other fundraising efforts to ensure the organization's success. Grow in-kind donations.
Financial: Develop an annual budget that meets or exceeds expectations of growth, manage to the budget. Participate in the development, presentation, and implementation of the annual budget in collaboration with the Treasurer and Finance Committee.
Leadership: Serves as a respected leader for Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer:
Applying for grants and other fundraising efforts to ensure the organization's success.
Execution of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, the organization's largest annual fundraising event, and other events throughout the year. Fosters staff empowerment and accountability. Supports a culture of collaboration and mutual respect for the highly diverse, multi-cultural staff.
Advocacy: Works to shape policies that have the most significant impact on breast cancer issues at local, state, and national levels, representing the organization in relevant forums.
Board Relations: Reports to the board and implements its decisions. Works to engage and build strong relationships with a Board dispersed nationally. Keeps members fully informed regarding the status and activities of the organization.
Strategic Planning: Leads strategic planning with the board. Follows through with implementation.
Communication: Serves as the primary spokesperson for Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer and effectively articulates the vision, mission, and outcomes.
Partnerships: Recognizes the importance of collaborating with the breast cancer community, healthcare, professionals, donors, and stakeholders and works to identify strategic partnership opportunities.
Community Relations: Interfaces and establishes strong relationships with communities at the state and local level, including policymakers, funders, donors, and the public. Operations: Coordinates administration of operations. Implementation of programs that carry out the organization's mission. Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
Qualifications
5-7 years of management experience with significant administrative responsibilities in the nonprofit sector.
Need the ability to oversee but also delegate effectively.
5+ years of demonstrated success in financial management.
High-level fundraising experience, both in foundation and individual giving. This includes excellent donor relations skills and an understanding of the funding community.
The ability to attract and inspire others on cancer-related issues.
Can envision and convey a vision for the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
The ability to speak publicly and articulate the different aspects of a cancer-related experience to many different audiences.
Ability to build strong collaborative teams and a strong organizational culture in a hybrid work environment.
A history of forming partnerships/coalitions with external organizations to achieve strategic objectives.
A humble and approachable demeanor with the ability to be assertive when needed.
Willingness to work a non-traditional work schedule, occasional travel throughout Georgia, as needed, and some weekend work, based on planned events.
Flexibility, adapting to working with people of different cultures.
