Position description

UCLA School of Dentistry invites qualified applications for a full-time tenure (tenure series-JPF09327 (po.ucla.edu/JPF09327) ) or non-tenure (Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series-JPF09328 (po.ucla.edu/JPF09328) ) faculty position at the Professor or Associate Professor level, to serve as Section Chair of Endodontics in the Division of Regenerative and Reconstructive Sciences. The candidate will join the renowned faculty at the School of Dentistry in the top ranked public university in the USA and will participate in achieving the broader strategic aims of the School and the Division.

The Section Chair will promote quality and interdisciplinary instruction and mentoring, foster clinical research productivity that positively impacts the School and beyond; and apply expertise in innovative ways that benefits collaborators across campus, the community and the discipline. The Chair will be responsible for the overall administration and leadership of the academic section, including planning and goal setting; financial stewardship; personnel management, mentorship and development; oversight of postdoctoral and DDS educational programs; and support of school and university service missions. Responsibilities will include accomplishing priorities set by the Dean and the school based on the strategic plan.

UCLA seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, excellence, and service to our stakeholder communities.

Applicants must possess a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent degree. Additional qualifications include a certificate of advanced training in Endodontics preferably from an accredited postdoctoral program, and credentials to attain a California dental license or be eligible for a dental license/special permit in California. Endodontics board certification or eligibility is highly desirable. Scholarly accomplishment and experience in administrative functions, fiscal management, development, and alumni relations are highly desirable. The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative, excellent organization, and communication skills. For tenure track applicants, candidates must have an established track record of funded research and scholarship. Prior to formal appointment, finalist(s) are required to complete and upload the reference check authorization form.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. An opportunity for part-time intramural or extramural practice will be available. The salary range for this position is $139,500 - $297,200. See Table #5, Scales 0 and 3 (cop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2023-24-academic-salary-scales.html) .

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, personal statements on teaching and research, a statement describing contributions for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and the names and contact information for three professional references via UCLA Recruit. Contact information for references will only be used with permission from finalists.

Applicants seeking a tenure track position must submit a statement of research.

The search will remain open until the position has been filled.

For the tenure track position, apply via UC Recruit at: po.ucla.edu/JPF09327.

For the non-tenure track position (Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series), apply via UC Recruit at: po.ucla.edu/JPF09328.

Questions regarding this search should be directed to Meg Malasarte, Academic Personnel Director. (email: [email protected])

The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, bullying and other demeaning behavior, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment as well as a commitment to addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UCLA conducts targeted employment reference checks for finalists to whom departments or other hiring units would like to extend formal offer of appointment into Academic Senate faculty positions. The targeted employment reference checks involve contacting the finalists' current and prior places of employment to ask whether there have been substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University's Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UCLA requires all applicants for Academic Senate faculty positions to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled "Authorization to Release Information" into RECRUIT as part of their application. If the applicant does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e. those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Academic Senate faculty positions will be subject to targeted employment reference checks.
