Recreation Maintenance Specialist

Performs manual work maintaining the cleanliness of parks, marking and preparing ball fields, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under limited supervision. Picks up trash from area parks and ball fields and empties trash cans.
Checks for safety of playground and park equipment.
Prepares athletic fields; mows, fertilizes, and rakes fields; lays out fields, aligns bases, stripes field, etc.
Uses a variety of handheld and motorized tools and equipment such as chainsaws, blowers, hedge clippers, etc.
Cleans and maintains assigned restrooms.
Performs general maintenance work such as painting, installing and/or repairing picnic tables, swings, slides, water fountains, bench boards, bleachers, and other park equipment.
Performs various ground maintenance duties such as grass seeding, horticulture work, snow removal, or work related with special events.
Operates a truck daily and can include attaching trailer, light tower, or message board.
Operates a 360 lawn mower.
Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in the performance of general maintenance, grounds keeping, parks maintenance work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses / Certifications: Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Knowledge: Knowledge of ground maintenance techniques and equipment.
Skills: Ground maintenance skills.
Abilities: Ability to perform manual work for long periods of time.
Work Environment: Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights, or dust and to potentially dangerous equipment or materials.
Essential Physical Activities:
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
Typical Weight Handled: up to 75 lbs.
