The Department of Emergency Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking qualified applicants for the faculty position of Associate Program Director of the UTHSA Emergency Medicine Residency. Successful applicants will be board certified in Emergency Medicine, highly motivated, academically focused, and have previous graduate or undergraduate medical education experience. Experience with learners from diverse backgrounds, knowledge of adult education strategies and experience in urban or safety net systems is highly desired. This is an outstanding opportunity to join an already talented and vibrant residency leadership team in shaping the future of the UTHSA Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The UTHSA and University Health System offer excellent, wide-ranging and unique opportunities for resident education. Full-time faculty may be recruited at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor commensurate with experience.
The Associate Program Director will work at University Hospital, which is the only Adult and Pediatric Level I Trauma Center in South Central Texas and sees over 90,000 patients per year. University Hospital is opening a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital this fall, with 300 beds and a new Pediatric ED. The residency is a PGY 1-3 program that accepts 12 residents per year. We have over 30 board-certified emergency physicians with broad scholarly and academic interests. The department also hosts several other EM specialty fellowships and both required 3 rd year and advanced 4 th year medical student clerkships.
In addition to providing excellent patient care and teaching to house staff and medical students, the Associate Program Director will participate in our weekly medical education conference series, play key roles on residency and departmental committees, and be a resource and mentor for junior faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students.

Vision - Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits. Life Employees receive $40,000 of group term life insurance and $40,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for free, with options to purchase additional employee and dependent coverage for both at group rates.
Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.
FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
