Data Center Technician
Job Description:
SUMMARY
Performs various activities related to Data Center environments, including but not limited to installing and de-installing of Data Center IT equipment, to ensure maximum efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of infrastructure systems. Ensures that appropriate tasks follow the Change Control rules and support the task as documented by the requester.
SCHEDULE
Must be able to work on-site from our Jacksonville, FL office with some weekend work required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Part of a "First Line Escalation Team" for technical issues/incidents.
Assist with the execution of Moves, Adds and Changes of IT equipment within the Data Center.
Asset management - receiving, recording, and tracking (deployment and , decommission).
Facilitate quality assurance for maintaining Data Center Standards.
Oversee Data Center cabling inventory (copper/fibers patch cables, fiber cleaning accessories, cables labels, etc) and report appropriately.
Provides on call 24 x 7 support of the Data Center as needed
Prepares and maintains technical manuals, reports, equipment inventory and procedures.
Routine testing of critical Data Center equipment for operation, safety, and efficiency.
Facilitates Data Center capacity planning and reporting, for white space and infrastructure.
Performs installation and de-installation tasks of all data processing equipment, associated cabling systems and equipment logistics according to established Data Center standards.
Oversees work from external service providers and ensures that all work is performed within Data Center policies and procedures.
Project Management Coordination, follow-up, tracking & reporting
Produce executive reporting for all facets of Facilities & Data Center Operations
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems, or Business Administration is preferred, or other related discipline work experience or equivalent combinations of education and training.
Requires 7+ years of data center operations/infrastructure experience or equivalent combinations of facilities/data center and building operations.
Skilled use of Microsoft Office Suite of products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certified Data Center Technician (CDCT)
Basic network knowledge and experience
Working knowledge of copper and fiber infrastructure cabling installation and experience with hardware installation
Experience working in a controlled environment with knowledge of Change Control & Incident Management processes
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Project Management Skills- Coordination, follow-up, tracking & reporting
Ability to manage 3rd party contract staff/vendors working within the Data Center
