What You Will Do

Early-stage analysis and evaluations of functional safety architectures used in both, conventional emergency shut down systems and highly available systems. Evaluate the suitability of the specific technology to meet customers and MediaTek objectives from an engineering standpoint. Work with all kinds of relevant suppliers to arrive at the information needed to make informed judgements.

Participate with technical marketing departments, advanced technology management and development engineering to establish project goals and requirements related to system safety activities.

Elaborate, design, and imagine conventional and innovative functional safety concepts for future generation product capabilities. This includes to do advanced deep technical analysis of reliability metrics, failure modes identification, diagnostic coverages techniques, dependent failure analysis and architectural system evaluations with the objective to determine the feasibility of different solutions to meet targets established by international standards and customer expectations.

Capability to expose technical solutions to diverse auditors from peers, technical and business customers, and suppliers and to upper MediaTek management, this also includes the capability to present strong argumentation to certifying agencies.

Develop architectural designs at the whole scope of the application, including vehicle level features, vehicle architectures down to IPs micro architectures. Communicate and coordinate safety designs with IP teams. Consider tradeoffs between requirements, time to market, cost, and quality. Provide workload estimation and skills needed to accomplish the milestone.

Maintain technical expertise in field. Create and maintain relationship with educational institutions Worldwide, professional societies (SAE, VDA, SIA, IEEE etc.) and technical publications. Maintain awareness of applicable new technologies, processes, and trends.

Functions as a point of reference for functional/system safety expertise in a specific domain. Consults across multiple teams. Assist as requested with problem resolution, product design reviews, and technical strategy analysis and development.

Understand complex control system concepts and contribute to the development and implementation of the product strategic direction in functional safety / system safety.

Conduct tasks following applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, etc.) as well as MediaTek policies and procedures.

Intimate understanding in at least 2 or more Functional Safety / System Safety standards such as: ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO PAS 21448 SOTIF, UL 4600, IEC 61511, EN 5012x, ISO 10218, IEC 62061, IEC 60601.

You will report to the MediaTek’s SoC Functional Safety Director.

The Essentials - Degrees

Bachelor’s, Master’s degree (desired), or PhD + significant experience

Automotive Experience or equivalent

Significant Experience on any of the following Vehicle level control Functions such as, but not limited to: Engine, Power Train, Passive safety, Cybersecurity, ADAS, Autonomy, Infotainment, Lighting, Suspension, Braking and Steering Control Systems.

The Preferred - You may also have

Intimate familiarity with structured/disciplined product development (V-model, DOD-STD-2167A, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ISO PAS 21448 SOTIF, UL 4600, IEC 61511, EN 5012x, ISO 10218, IEC 62061, IEC 60601, etc.).

5 years on HW and/or SW/FW Design experience + HW/SW Architecture Experience.

5 years on System’s Engineering methodology experience + Requirements Management + System Level Architecture.

3 years on Technical Project Management experience including Functional Safety (FSM).

3 years Functional Safety Analysis Experience, ASIL decomposition and ASIL allocation.

Significative experience with product certification, products assessments, and audits (automotive, health care, aviation, railway, process industries, robotics, etc.)

Probability and Statistics knowledge.

Application Level – Vehicle Level - Use Case analysis and Definition.

Exposure to any of the following Associations: SAE, SIA, VDA, IEEE.

2 years of Model Based Methodology experience – MBD, MBSE, MBSA.

Understanding the intimate relationship between Reliability, Maintainability, Availability and Safety.

Demonstrate and able to clearly explain the most popular safety mechanisms or diagnostics used in a computing unit their effectiveness and purpose.

Good Machine Learning Fundamentals and in particular a clear understanding of its implications in functional safety.

Use Case Exposure like: Electric Vehicles, ADAS, Hybrid Vehicles, Autonomous Vehicles, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Highly Automated Vehicles, Grade of Automations GoA 3 or 4 Railway, Unmanned Vehicles Aerial, and Underwater Experience.

Salary range: $180,000 - $250,000

Employee may be eligible for performance bonus, short and long term incentive programs. Actual total compensation will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
