JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. This position provides direct nursing care to patients and assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities. Participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs thorough admission assessment, utilizes appropriate interview techniques to obtain history within the time frame of unit policy.
Assesses age-specific needs to patient population served.
Implements nursing care in an organized and efficient manner. Evaluates effectiveness and interventions using critical thinking skills.
Administers medication safely and accurately, and utilizes available resources when questions arise.
Initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods.
Evaluates outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met.
Addresses unresolved needs in discharge planning.
Documents clearly and consistently in the EMR.
Positive and effective interaction skills through verbal and nonverbal communication with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians.
Accepts responsibility for own learning needs. Attends courses and in-services offered.
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association for all areas including but not limited to the requirements as listed for area below.
Utilizes powerchart tracking shell for patient location, census information and status chalkboard'.
Attains basic cardiology certification within 60 days of hire and updates annually.
