U.S. Energy Foundation staff work in service of a clean energy future for all. We are committed to fostering an environment that supports ongoing training, coaching, and resources to ensure staff have the tools they need to succeed.

“I enjoy working at U.S. Energy Foundation alongside staff, grantees, consultants, and other stakeholders, who are deeply committed to making an impact in communities around the country. Working with such a dedicated and mission-driven team gives me hope that we will achieve a more equitable and healthier future.”

“I love working for U.S. Energy Foundation because of the sense of community that is fostered throughout the organization. I feel seen, heard, and supported in all of my work, and know that I can always depend on and confide in my colleagues.”

Amy Stearns (she/her)

Senior Program Associate, Southeast

“I feel fortunate that I get to spend a significant chunk of my time at U.S. Energy Foundation raising resources for and collaborating to create equity-led systems that support the transition toward a clean energy future for all.”

“What makes me excited to work at U.S. Energy Foundation is the opportunity to weave together so many ways to learn. We all bring a unique skill set to the work, and being in this environment exposes me to climate and clean energy expertise, equitable grantmaking, and the effectiveness of working together to achieve something powerful.”

“The work feels more important because of the variety of people we get to work with on a daily basis. I get to talk to people not just from the midwest, but from all over the country and from all walks of life. I get to work with my team, but also with diverse stakeholders who do a large variety of work.”

“My vision is that we expand the breadth and depth of the work we do and the networks we build, knowing that equity is a fundamental component of the outcomes we’re working toward. At U.S. Energy Foundation, we are building, designing, and scaling solutions with allies that make sense for their communities, which benefits us all.”

Our strategies for compensation and benefits are designed to support a culture of health and financial well-being that puts staff wellness at the forefront. EF’s approach to employee compensation is designed to be fair, equitable, and transparent. It is our goal to provide a market-based compensation program that addresses unfair historical pay gaps based on race and gender. Our salary ranges are available to all of our employees, and we sponsor an external pay equity analysis every year to ensure parity among those who perform similar work.

Comprehensive medical, vision and dental insurance for employees, spouses/domestic partners and dependent children, with 100% of monthly premiums paid by the foundation. The foundation also covers co-pays and provides a generous HSA benefit.

Paid Time Off: Employees receive a generous sick leave benefit as well as unlimited paid time off. In addition to 12 recognized U.S. holidays, the foundation also enjoys a paid holiday week between December 24 and January 1, as well as the full week of Fourth of July. After seven years of good service, employees can take a five-week 100 percent paid sabbatical.

Foundation contributes 5% of the employee’s gross earnings to a 403(b) retirement plan and will match up to an additional 5% (up to the IRS maximum). Immediately vested. Qualifying employees can also contribute to a 457 retirement account (up to the IRS maximum).

Additional lifestyle benefits including commuter incentives; monthly cell phone plan; monthly fitness reimbursement; monthly healthcare stipend to be used at employee’s discretion; annual professional development stipend.

Foundation-paid life insurance equal to the employee’s annual salary.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion At U.S. Energy Foundation, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are top organizational commitments. Recognizing the interconnected nature of all forms of oppression, we continually assess and adjust our work and our behaviors to address societal needs with the ultimate goal of dismantling all forms of systemic racism. Much remains to be done to secure the clean and equitable energy future we need to tackle the climate crisis. We welcome the input of people already doing this work, of those who wish to work together, and of others in the field who could benefit from what we’ve learned so far in this vital work.
