This job develops a research portfolio as an independent investigator; teaches biomedical or health informatics in graduate or undergraduate programs; provides informatics and analytics expertise in the preparation of research protocols, abstracts, presentations, manuscripts and grant applications; and provides advanced analytics for health system-level, data-driven, clinical initiatives.

Education

Required - PhD or master's degree in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field from an accredited school.

Preferred - PhD in in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field from an accredited school or MD/DO.

Work Experience

Required - Track record of publications.

Completed post-doctoral training with PhD;

OR

5 years of relevant professional level experience with master's degree in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field from an accredited school.

Preferred - Track record of investigator-initiated research and related funding.

Certifications

Required - None.

Preferred - Nationally Recognized Informatics Certification or membership to national society.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Solid understanding of medical informatics and electronic medical record systems and a very strong knowledge of molecular biology, bioinformatics, computational biology or systems biology.

Strong programming (e.g. Perl, Python, Java), database (e.g. MySQL, MSSS, Oracle, DB2, RedCap), statistical analysis (e.g. using R, SPSS, or SAS), network visualization and analysis (e.g. GEPHI) and EPIC user interface and backend skills.

Knowledge of EPIC electronic medical record system, PCORnet and OMOP common data models.

Deep knowledge of statistical methods and practical knowledge of machine learning model building and deployment.

Knowledge of research design and methods and ability to publish research findings.

Ability to work and teach in an inter-professional environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.

Strong organizational and prioritization skills and ability to handle diverse responsibilities and multiple projects at one time while working independently under strict deadlines.

Ability to travel within state of employment.

Job Duties

Develops a research portfolio as an independent investigator.

Pursues grant funding opportunities (federal, industry and/or philanthropic).

Presents scholarly work at conferences and/or publish in peer reviewed journals.

Works collaboratively with faculty on courses, research and special projects related to health informatics.

Provides advanced analytics for health system-level, data-driven, clinical initiatives.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
