The purpose of this position is to supervise the maintenance of the City's financial records to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll, and general accounting. This role provides oversight and supervision to general or specialized accounting functions; reviewing and recording transactions; ensuring compliance with accounting standards; directing staff functions; reconciling accounts; analyzing financial information; and preparing financial reports. Other duties include coordinating the annual audit and assisting with preparation of the annual comprehensive financial report.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Participates in performing professional accounting duties in the analysis, preparation and maintenance of financial records, statements, and reports. Ensures appropriate financial controls and security measures are in place to safeguard City funds. Performs complex and financial and accounting analyses. Leads process improvement projects involving complex systems within the City. Manages the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, fixed assets records, and general accounting, to include recording transactions to the general ledger and reconciling accounts. Participates in the development of the City's annual operating budget. Participates and assists in coordinating activities for the City's annual financial audit. Assists other City departments and entities with accounting issues or tasks. Supervises staff by scheduling and assigning tasks; establishing goals and objectives; assigning priorities and responsibilities; reviewing performance; and participating in the hiring process. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
Five years of experience as an accountant in a governmental organization, preferably a municipality, three of which must include supervision of professional staff Valid CPA, CGFO, CIA certification preferred

Vacation
Non-civil service employees accrue 6.67 hours per month (2 weeks per year).
All police employees accrue 10 hours per month (3 weeks per year).
