The School of Public Health at the University of Memphis invites applications for a 9-month tenure track Associate Professor position in the Division of Health Systems Management and Policy. The anticipated start date is Spring or Fall 2024. This position presents an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant academic community committed to advancing public health research, education, and community engagement.
The CEPH accredited School of Public Health (https://www.memphis.edu/sph/contact/index.php) offers Master of Public Health degrees with concentrations in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Urban Health, and Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics. The SPH also offers a Master of Health Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, and PhD programs in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and in Social and Behavioral Health.
The University of Memphis is a comprehensive urban university classified as a Carnegie Doctoral Research Extensive Public Institution (http://www.memphis.edu/). The University has 12 colleges and schools, enrolling approximately 22,000 students, including 4,300 in graduate degree programs. Prospects for collaborative and interdisciplinary research exist with various University research centers, including the FedEx Institute of Technology, the W. Harry Feinstone Center for Genomic Research, the Methodist Le Bonheur Center for Healthcare Economics, the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change, and the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. Collaborative agreements allow for cross-institutional work with Shelby County Health Department, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, as well as partnerships with Baptist Memorial Healthcare System, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare System, West Cancer Center, and other community health clinics and systems.
Duties and responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Health Systems Management and Policy, including Leadership, Urban Health, and Global Engagement; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and serving on committees to further develop, support, and enhance the HSMP Division and the School of Public Health.
Course development of public health, health services management, urban health, and global engagement curriculum are required as a part of an upcoming program revitalization.
Minimum Position Qualifications
Candidates should have an earned doctoral degree in Health Policy, Healthcare Management, Public Health, Health Leadership, health informatics or a closely related field and experience commensurate with the academic rank of Associate Professor. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated teaching ability, established research trajectory, and will be required to advise, mentor, and guide students to prepare them for the workforce.
