Position Description
The Project Engineer is responsible for management and implementation of construction project controls, project administration, document management and technical coordination of work on a given project.
Reports to: Project Manager and/or Project Director
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of the contract documents (including the Company contract with the client, plans, specifications and applicable codes).
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, ethics and compliance requirements at all times.
- Overall responsibility for communication of information amongst all project team members.
- Coordinate and maintain procedures with the design professionals, consultants, owner and subcontractors for information flow, approvals, meetings, reporting, applications for payment, etc.
- Work with preconstruction, estimating and purchasing in development of Guaranteed Maximum Price or initial project budget. Coordinate preconstruction efforts as it relates to Project Engineering and the specific project needs.
- Conduct thorough construction document reviews and examine all documents for constructability and QA/QC. Bring all concerns to the attention of the appropriate design professional for resolution.
- Participate in preparation of various studies, recommendations for materials and methods, and cost estimates.
- Work with Project Manager in development of scopes of work for Source Subcontract Development.
- Prepare a detailed contract items list including all significant items required for the construction of the project. Develop trade scope of work documents for bid packages, major material and equipment purchases.
- Prepare a procurement schedule for subcontractors, major material and equipment purchases to ensure timely buy-outs and overall compliance with the construction schedule is maintained.
- Support the supervising Project Engineer or Project Manager in managing the financial status of the project including preparation of project status and accuracy of financial reports.
- Participate and document all job meetings, owner-architect and coordination meetings.
- Manage the subcontract change order process including review of subcontractor estimates, negotiate change orders, obtain required owner approvals and preparation of subcontract change orders.
- Manage document control and design updates of the project to include posting and publishing of design updates, changes, revisions and notifications.
- Process pay applications to the client as well as subcontractor pay applications
- Manage project close-out, including securing warranties, guarantees, and acceptance of work, subcontract and vendor close, final payment and records retention.
- Coordination of field activities performed by subcontractors when required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a Construction Management, Engineering or Technical related Degree: and/or a minimum of five (5) years of Project Supervision/Engineering experience in Commercial General Contracting or Construction Management
Possess experience in Construction Cost Estimating, Purchasing, Scope Development, Project Engineering and Subcontractor coordination
Possess experience in Project Scheduling development and implementation
Possess strong verbal and communications skills
Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Software and other required administrative software for Project delivery
Minimum OSHA 10 Hour Training
Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
Able to function successfully in a face paced, team atmosphere
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Performance of job duties may require climbing temporary or permanent stairs, passenger usage of construction hoists/elevators and climbing ladders
Work Environment may include existing on high elevated surfaces such as roofs, elevated platforms, swing stages, loud machine/equipment influenced areas, areas with high decibel banging and dust particles
