Accounting Manager

Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the Accounts Payable function and managing the accounting team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of accounts payable processes, as well as supporting the overall financial operations of the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Accounts Payable Management:
o Oversee the accounts payable process, including invoice processing, vendor payments, while maintaining adequate liquidity.
o Ensure accuracy and completeness of all accounts payable transactions, including proper coding, approval, and documentation.
o Implement and maintain controls to prevent errors, fraud, and duplicate payments.
o Resolve vendor inquiries and discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
• Team Leadership/Management:
o Lead, supervise and mentor the accounting team, including accounts payable staff and other accounting team members.
o Provide direction, guidance, and support to team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
o Delegate tasks effectively, monitor workloads, and ensure deadlines are met.
o Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for training and development.
• Financial Reporting & General Accounting:
o Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting (as needed).
o Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data related to accounts payable transactions and GL transactions.
o Collaborate with other departments to reconcile accounts payable-related accounts and resolve discrepancies.
o Provide insightful commentary and recommendations based on financial analysis to senior management.
o Reconcile certain balance sheet accounts (Account Recons) and make appropriate journal entries.
• Process Improvement:
o Identify opportunities to streamline accounts payable processes and improve efficiency.
o Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to optimize workflow and reduce cycle times.
o Leverage technology and automation tools to enhance accuracy and productivity within the accounts payable function.
• Compliance and Internal Controls: o Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
o Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.
o Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Tax Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and filing requirements, including income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax.
o Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors as needed to facilitate tax planning and compliance.
• Audit Support:
o Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors during financial audits.
o Prepare audit schedules and support documentation and respond to auditor inquiries in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, with experience in a healthcare or medical waste industry preferred.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven leadership abilities, with experience in managing a team and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
• Certification (e.g., Certified Accounts Payable Professional, Certified Public Accountant) is a plus. Ideal candidate:
