Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Underwriter with construction loan experience, based out of our Los Angeles (Brentwood) offices.
As an Underwriter at Reliant, you will play a crucial role in evaluating financial risks and ensuring adherence to sound credit practices. This position requires proven strength in both Sponsor (builder) and Loan (project) Underwriting, and strong cross-functional collaboration with peers, management, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate is an expert in performing detailed analyses of creditworthiness, financial profiles, and credit risk levels.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with respective Loan Officers and Construction group stakeholders.
Conduct thorough analysis of creditworthiness by reviewing financial and project data.
Make informed and consistent decisions aligned with internal credit governance documents.
Assess specified risk mitigants in the application package for relevance and appropriateness.
Pay close attention to detail and consistency in analysis and findings presentation format.
Provide clear, concise, and consistent written summaries for the Underwriting package.
Collaborate in the enhancement of credit governance documents.
Provide regular back-up, feedback, and insights to the Senior Vice President of Underwriting.
Recommend and implement best practices as part of Reliant’s dedication to creating an industry-leading customer experience.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, related field or equivalent experience.
Five plus years’ experience in both Sponsor (borrower) and Loan (project) Underwriting.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Proficiency in financial and tools, including standard Loan Origination Systems ("LOS"), spreads, and risk-scoring tools.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
