The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis. This position will be located in Las Vegas and statewide travel may be required. Federally recognized identification for travel is required. The CCB is seeking a Public Information Officer to interact with media, cannabis industry representatives, legislators, and local government entities. The incumbent will need to be a self starter and have strong communication skills. The PIO would use a variety of means (webpage, press release, brochures, social media, email, etc.) to keep licensees, legislators, and interested parties informed on changes related to new and existing legislation, regulations, compliance issues, and addressing questions. The PIO would create working relationships with interested parties, cannabis industry organizations, legislators, state agencies, and local government entities. The PIO facilitates communication with stakeholders, including public records requests and the agency's website. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing and presenting speeches and multimedia presentations, independent media contact, development of public relations strategies and journalistic writing; OR one year of experience as a Public Information Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
The incumbent may be required to work a flexible shift, to possibly include some weekends.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
