The Sr. Manager, NGS Systems is responsible for acting as the marketing lead for strategic initiatives, and product pipeline work in support of market and product development activities. This position will partner with Product Development and various cross functional stakeholders to define the product requirements and product strategy for new NGS system launches, as well as solutions that enable system market uptake and application expansion. This position will act as the voice of the market and customer needs to establish foundational metrics for Illumina’s NGS systems roadmap and new product development. They will be accountable for various activities supporting new product development including the development of business plans, executing market research, defining product and commercial strategies and partnering across the organization to prepare and execute on an effective new product launch plan. The successful candidate will be a highly independent, seasoned veteran who has prior experience launching products and demonstrates best-in-class marketing capabilities.

Tasks And Responsibilities

Act as primary marketing lead, accountable for product management responsibilities for new product development.

Establish product/system level requirements as defined by customer/market and business need, leveraging best practices and data driven decision making including market research, voice of customer, business analytics, customer use cases etc.

Develop business cases to support key decision making for new product requirements, pricing and establish initial sales forecast predictions.

Partner with key commercial stakeholders to establish commercialization strategies and approaches to ensure product launch success.

Partner with key product management and regional marketing stakeholders to define key growth areas for application enablement and market expansion and recommended strategies to unlock growth through product development, sales enablement tools and market development efforts.

Serve as product expert in partnership with Product Marketing to develop product launch value proposition, messaging, product training and launch collateral.

Serve as product and customer champion within a cross-functional core team, acting as a strong cross functional partner to effectively support product development decisions.

Understand key business drivers, based on data and analytics, market trends and direct interaction with Commercial teams and customers.

Build close relationships with key customers, thought leaders, partners, and industry influencers to stay abreast of emerging market trends.

Establish strong cross functional partnerships with Product Development, Operations, Quality, Commercial and Global Marketing.

Managerial responsibility for a team of product managers to support the marketing activities for new product introduction.

Preferred Educational And Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or PhD a plus.

Must have at least 7+ years of industry experience in Product Management

Must have been a marketing leader, both pre- and post-launch, for a major product line

Must have demonstrated experience in developing and requirements and commercial launch plans for new product development; experience with hardware is desirable

Must have experience in developing product strategy and product roadmaps.

Must have market experience and knowledge of next-generation sequencing customer segments, needs and applications

Prior experience developing genomics products is highly desired

Prior experience in clinical genomic applications is highly desired

Prior experience in market development is highly desired

Must have strong analytical skills – ability to tie detailed analysis to larger strategy and make data driven decisions is critical

Must have demonstrated effective collaboration in matrixed or highly cross-functional business settings;

Must have demonstrated track record of successfully building new markets and market strategy

Must have demonstrated track record of effective public speaking skills and executive level presentation experience.

Prior management experience desirable

Location at San Diego HQ is preferred; will consider remote role for exceptional candidates.

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Manager, Product Management - Strategic Programs role based in the United States of America is: $152,600 - $228,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
