As a Leisure Planning & Strategy Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of leisure and recreational spaces within our communities. Your expertise will drive the research, planning, development, and implementation of strategies and projects that transform public areas into dynamic hubs of activity, fostering healthier lifestyles and stronger social connections.
Reporting to the Coordinator Recreation, you will also develop and implement the City’s Community Infrastructure Strategy and Action Plan which aims to enhance communities and ensure the long-term sustainability of public amenities and services.

A snapshot of your new role:
Research and analyse community needs, identifying future demands and trends relating to leisure, recreation, and public open spaces
Develop robust, actionable strategies that align with community needs and expectations, and that enhance and expand recreational facilities, programs, and services
Project manage and coordinate sport, recreation and leisure public open space projects
Undertake feasibility studies, needs analysis research and reporting, project reviews and business planning
Assist with developing annual and long-term capital and operational budgets for relevant projects
Facilitate consultations and provide strategic support to residents and local groups to gather insights and ensure community-driven project development
How you will thrive in this role
A tertiary qualification in sport, recreation, urban design, statutory planning or relevant qualification (or considerable experience in sport, recreation, public open space or statutory planning, project management and implementation)
Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills with experience in interpreting and applying research, policies, statutory and legislative documents to develop strategic outcomes
Demonstrated report writing skills and well-developed communication skills, including public speaking and presentations
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to gain cooperation, support and to influence stakeholders to achieve goals
Proven ability to plan, manage and implement projects with a sport, recreational and public open space component
