APIs are fundamental to how software is built today. API producers want to offer APIs because they are an increasingly important way to reach customers. Companies like Stripe, Twilio, and Plaid are API-first because of this. Infrastructure companies like AWS and GCP drive huge increases in developer usage via APIs. Internally, APIs enable teams to scale efficiently.
For API producers however, offering an API that is easy to integrate with is far too difficult. Developers spend 70% of their time on activities other than building the API itself: writing endless docs and usage guides, troubleshooting failed API calls, setting up authentication, building self-service tooling for users — the list goes on. Every team has to reinvent the wheel today. Most can’t afford the time and resources to do so. The result is poor API developer experience, unhappy users, and low adoption.
Speakeasy enables every API developer to build world-class APIs that match the best in the industry. Using Speakeasy, developers can create idiomatic, rich SDKs in a range of languages — without needing to hire a whole team of engineers. Our SDKs reduce integration time from days or weeks to minutes. We also offer self-service auth, troubleshooting, and usage dashboards, saving producers months of dev time and providing API consumers with a delightful integration experience.
We were founded in 2021 and have already hit important revenue milestones. We have raised funding from top-notch VC and angel investors who share our huge vision, and have significant runway remaining.
Our team is currently based mainly in San Francisco and London. We are looking to hire remote-first in the US or UK with a preference for US Pacific and UK time zones. We meet up and spend a week together roughly every quarter.
About the role
We’ve hit important commercial goals, and are ready to start scaling rapidly. We are looking for someone who can take on the critical task of helping drive huge growth in demand generation, and to be a foundational member of the go-to-market team.
You’ll be a critical partner in determining our entire go-to-market strategy and execution, and laying the foundations for what we believe will be a ubiquitous product for every engineering team. You’ll be able to operate at both the strategic 30,000 foot level, but also should be very comfortable getting into the details and making things happen as an IC. As we scale, you’ll hire and manage the marketing team.
A day in this role may include partnering with founders to brainstorm experiments that could create massive top-of-funnel leads; writing content or editing submissions from content writers; working with engineering to understand and improve signup and conversion metrics; creating enablement material; and making improvements on landing pages or website copy.
The problems you’ll solve
- How can we most effectively reach our buyers and users? What channels, initiatives, content, events, etc. should we be executing on for each ICP, and how should we prioritize them?
- How should we execute that marketing strategy? What experiments do we need to run? Who is responsible for what, and when?
- Who should we be hiring, whether contractors or full-time?
- Are there creative growth hacks we should be employing?
- What isn’t working today, and how can we improve?
- What should our messaging be? What should our copy say?
- How should we measure ourselves? What KPIs should we monitor, and how should we implement that?
Who we’re looking for
- Thrives under uncertainty: we’re a startup that’s growing and evolving rapidly. To be successful and to enjoy the day-to-day, you must thrive in this environment.
- Is entrepreneurial and autonomous: you have full authority to think up and execute whatever you think will lead to success. We’ll want to be a thought partner and to help however we can — but you should be in the driver’s seat.
- Has experience building marketing from scratch: we haven’t built out much in the way of formal systems or initiatives — you have the opportunity to create from the ground up.
- Can think big picture but also can do the IC work: you’ll be a foundational team member, setting the high-level strategy but also implementing on-the-ground.
- Strong general athlete: you’ll be one of our first go-to-market hires at a rapidly growing company. You’ll need to learn fast, be willing to jump in wherever you can be effective, and wear many hats.
- Has technical affinity and passion for building for developers: we operate in a technical market, and our users/buyers are engineers. You will need to be familiar with APIs and quick to learn / understand technical concepts.
