Description Project Canary is a climate technology company that offers an enterprise emissions data platform that helps companies identify, measure, understand, and act to reduce emissions across the energy value chain. Our mission is to “Measure It” – leveraging sophisticated software solutions to help companies improve and report on their emissions footprint. We do this by building high-fidelity sensors, ingesting data from various other technologies and sources, characterizing the accuracy of such emissions data, and deploying advanced physics-based AI-powered models to identify leaks and quantify emissions.
The Senior Accountant will play in integral role in this startup environment where process improvement and best practice implementation are two of our top goals in the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and administer the invoicing process in a timely and customer-focused manner while optimizing collections.
Manage accounts payables and administer credit card spend software.
Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.
Assist with multi-state sales tax & property tax compliance.
Administer and enforce internal controls, such as expense reporting.
Play a key role in the monthly close process for both subsidiaries.
Participate in accounting audits and audit preparation
Maintain department standard operating procedures and train staff, as needed.
Prepare and/or contribute to financial statement creation and the presentation of accurate and relevant reports for the Finance and Accounting team and organizational leadership.
Collaborate with software vendors to enhance accounting systems, recommending updates that align with evolving industry standards.
Proactively collaborate and cooperate with teammates, subsidiaries, and contractors on accounting projects and activities.
Advice internal colleagues on accounting standards and processes.
Drive excellence and stability through efficient actions and continuous improvement.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required Qualifications
Minimum 4+ years accounting experience with progressive growth.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
Strong working knowledge of GAAP
Proficiency in accounting software applications such as Excel and ERP systems.
Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience with software implementation projects
Preferred Qualifications
Formal finance or accounting education and/or CPA/CMA is preferred.
Experience with NetSuite
Experience with Avalara sales tax administration
Bill, Airbase or other spend management system
Experience working in companies with complex supply chain, warehouse, manufacturing and distribution operations

Salary range: $90,000-$115,000 annual base
